28 PREMIER LIFESTYLES Clockwise from left: "Center Green" has 450,000 square feet of design showrooms and creative office space to add to the 750,000 square feet in "Center Blue". PDC is at the corner of famous Melrose Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard. Enjoy West Hollywood while visiting the Pacific Design Center. SSince its 1975 unveiling, Pacific Design Center (PDC) has been the West Coast's epicenter for residential and commercial furnishings and interior design products. Planned for developer Charles Cohen by architect Cesar Pelli, FAIA, Center Blue is a 750,000-square-foot colossus affectionately called "The Blue Whale" for its famed cerulean siding. Added in 1988, Center Green is an additional 450,000square-foot hulk of design showrooms and creative office space, also planted firmly on the 14-acre campus of the PDC. Rounding out the Pacific Design Center triad will be the long-awaited Red Building, set for completion in 2009. Unlike the name suggests, Red Building will actually feature two towers, adding another 400,000 square feet of office space in the epicenter of the Hollywood corridor. The towers will even boast parking for 1,400 cars, a rare feat in the middle of the congested center of Los Angeles. The unveiling of Red Building will be a feather in the cap of Pelli, allowing the decorated architect to add the finally completed center to his already prestigious portfolio. Named one of the top ten most influential living architects by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Pelli's incredible work includes the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the BankBoston Tower in Buenos Aires and the Beijing World Financial Center, to name only a few. Everything for the interior of a home, yacht, plane or office space can be found at the luxe Pacific Design Center, from furniture to fabrics, lighting to laminates, area rugs to accessories.
