For those already connected with their own personal designer, the Pacific Design Center encourages a prior introduction, which will allow you and your designer the utmost attention and offerings of the PDC. For those with more than interior design in mind, Pacific Design Center houses some more varied facilities. The SilverScreen Theater and Conference Center host nonshopping related excursions for Angelinos and tourists alike. The Conference Center seats 200 and hosts frequent design lectures, meetings, and special events throughout the year. The SilverScreen is a 380-seat luxury venue with a reception facility, offering only the best for the core of the entertainment industry. In fact, Pacific Design Center frequently plays host to famed awards parties and industry events, recently including Elton John's AIDS Foundation Oscar party and the HBO Emmy Awards. Pacific Design Center commons is also the satellite of The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). MOCA is currently featuring photographs by German artist Florian Maier-Aichen, which, according to the museum, is "a body of work that is rich with historical and contemporary references." Bedding, bar stools, rugs, wall coverings, even motion pictures and photographs... everything from A-Z can be found at Pacific Design Center. Spanning a staggering 1.2 million square feet, a trip to the PDC can be overwhelming for even the most seasoned shopper. Luckily for weary visitors, there are two Wolfgang Puck restaurants on site ready to feed even the hungriest housewares hunter after a full day spent wandering the grounds. For a quick bite, stop in at the street-level Design Caf. Or take your time at the third-floor WP, where the menu fuses French, Asian and California influences for a real luncheon retreat. Pacific Design Center is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. 5 p.m. MOCA, as with most museums, is open six days per week but is closed Mondays and most holidays. Whether it is a new piece of furniture, a whole new design, or just a trip to the museum you're after, pencil in Pacific Design Center as the next stop on your day trip agenda. If you would rather save the trip and shop in your own backyard, San Diego offers a plethora of design options in your own neighborhood. Cedros, in Solana Beach, is a haven for North County shoppers wanting to find the perfect piece for their home. The exciting new Eastlake Design District will save many shoppers the long trip to Miramar Road or San Marcos for those living in South County.
